My kids make me a better person

by Alison M. Brooks

I have three wonderful children and couldn’t be prouder of whom they have become.  My oldest child and only son is a 19-year-old college sophomore.  Ronnie has earned a four-year scholarship to Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC.  He is an English major and plans to be a high school English teacher. He is mentoring and tutoring elementary school students in Spartanburg in addition to maintaining a B average and playing Division I (FCS) football. Symone is a 16-year-old high school junior.  She is outspoken, opinionated, and passionate about what she believes.  I can’t wait to meet the woman she becomes. Then, there is the baby. Samantha is a 2nd grader who arrived on Christmas Eve in 2010. She was three weeks early and was the best Christmas gift I have ever received.  Hands down, my children are the best thing I have ever done, and they walk into the world with the confidence that comes from knowing that their mother thinks they walk on water. My children make me a better person. They bring a smile to my face when I say their names, and I am always willing to take the time to tell anyone about them.
